Rate Information:
  • Top-up rates based on total number of days away, including days already covered by Multi-Trip Annual Plan or other coverage. Rates based on age at time of booking.
  • $10 minimum policy fee
Age Restrictions:
  • Available for those Age 0-89
Changes Prior to Effected Date:
  • Dates can be changed up until Effective Date
  • Policies can be cancelled up until Effective Date
  • No change or cancellation fees
Refunds for Returning Early:
  • Subject to no claims being made against your policy
  • Subject to a $30 Administration Fee
  • Refund amount minimum $10 per Policy
  • Must supply MQIB with Proof of Return
Extensions after effective date:
  • Subject to answering no to the 3 questions below:
    • Have you had any claims, or do you plan to submit a claim against your policy?
    • Have you had any changes to your health or medication since departing?
    • Have any Pre-Existing Medical Conditions NOT remained stable?
  • Minimum amount of $10 per Policy

 

Plan Details
Alpha & Beta Pre-Existing medical conditions are covered providing your condition has been stable and controlled for at least 90 days before departure with no changes to your health, medication or treatment (with the exception of blood pressure and cholesterol which is 60 days).
Delta & Epsilon Pre-Existing medical conditions are covered providing your condition has been stable and controlled for at least 180 days before departure with no changes to your health, medication or treatment (with the exception of blood pressure and cholesterol which is 90 days).
Omega Pre-Existing medical conditions are covered providing your condition has been stable and controlled for at least 365 days before departure with no changes to your health, medication or treatment (with the exception of blood pressure and cholesterol which is 180 days).
Kappa Pre-Existing medical conditions are covered providing your condition has been stable and controlled for at least 180 days before departure with no changes to your health, medication or treatment.
Sigma Pre-Existing medical conditions are not covered, regardless of stability.

 

Please note: This insurance does not provide coverage for Parkinson’s disease, a heart disease/condition treated with nitroglycerin, a recurrence of cancer, kidney stones, gallstones, epilepsy or seizures unless you have requested and paid for the option to remove this exclusion.

Benefit Details
Overall Maximum:
  • Up to $2 Million
Emergency Medical Coverage:
  • For accidents, injury or sickness – coverage includes ambulance transportation, hospital accommodation and care, diagnostic testing, physician and nursing services, surgery, medical supplies, equipment and medication
Pre-Existing Medical Conditions:
  • Covered if your condition meets the “stable and controlled” requirements of the plan you qualify for
Emergency Return Home:
  • When recommended by your attending physician
Repatriation of Remains:
  • Up to $5,000 to have your remains repatriated
Return of Companion:
  • Up to $3,000 to return your insured travelling companion
Accidental Dental Coverage:
  • $2,000 if you suffer an accidental blow to the mouth
  • $350 if you require relief of dental pain
Vehicle Return:
  • Up to $3,000 to return your vehicle
Trip Break:
  • Trip break available on single trips with prior approval to return home for special events
Meals, Hotel and Taxi:
  • If an Emergency prevents you from returning as planned the insurance company will pay up $150 per day up to $1500 for extra meals hotel and taxi fares
Hospital Allowance:
  • Up to $50 per day up to $500 for telephone, TV rental, and parking
Automatic Extension:
  • Up to 72 hours for Delay of Conveyance beyond your control
  • If you are hospitalized
  • Up to 72 hours if a Medical Emergency prevents you from returning on schedule
Please Note:
  • All benefits must be pre-approved by the insurance company by calling the phone number provided on the confirmation of insurance/wallet card provided.
  • In an emergency, and prior to seeking medical assistance, it is extremely important that you call the insurance company assistance centre phone number located on your wallet card before seeking treatment, or as soon as you are physically able.

 

Additional Optional Upgrades

Benefit Details
Reduced Stability
  • Reduces Pre-existing medical condition Stability up to $250,000 (CAD) for conditions stable for more than 7 days but less than the stability of the plan you qualify for
    • Not available with the Pre-existing condition upgrade
Retiree Plan Upgrade:
  • When topping up a retiree plan with a maximum limit of 40 days and at least $500,000 coverage, and you are purchasing a minimum of 30 top-up days, Southern Elements will supplement your coverage up to $2,000,000.
Upgrade Pre-existing condition clause :
  • Add coverage for Parkinson’s disease, a heart disease/condition treated with nitroglycerine or a recurrence of cancer, kidney stones, gallstones, epilepsy or seizures for a 10 % surcharge .
Trip Return :
  • If you are returned to your home province under Benefit 12 and your physician in Canada determines that the emergency and associated treatment is over with no recurrence reasonably expected, and clears you for travel, we will reimburse up to $5,000 to return you and your travelling companion to your original destination. Your original trip period must not have lapsed or be within 7 days of expiring, and any subsequent recurrence or complications of the preexisting condition that caused the original emergency will be excluded.(This benefit is payable only when pre-approved and arranged by the assistance company, and only if you opted to purchase this upgrade).
Option to remove coverage for Pre-Existing conditions :
  • If you qualify for the Beta, Delta, Episilon, Omega or Kappa plan you can opt to remove coverage for all pre-existing conditions for a discounted premium rate of 20%. If you did, your plan will not cover pre-existing conditions, it will only cover new sickness and accidents. This exclusion includes pre-existing conditions which have been stable and/or treated prior to your departure date. Your Confirmation of Coverage will indicate no coverage for pre-existing conditions.
