A sign pointing in directions labelled help, support, advice, guidance and assistance

We are not just here to sell you insurance and walk away leaving you to deal with any of the unknown situations that might arise on your own. Your Medi-Quote Insurance Broker will be here to help answer questions about how best to proceed when you need help.

Here are some common situations where people may find themselves contacting us after they've purchased their policies.

Changes in your health

When you get your travel insurance you are paired with a plan that provides coverage for any medical conditions you currently have or have had in the past. Sometimes your health situation changes before you leave. What then? If you call us and let us know about any new diagnoses, changes in symptoms, any pending tests or medication adjustments and we will be able to advise you how that affects your current insurance coverage and if you need to change your plan or be aware of any exclusions.

We will also make note of the new information on your file so that in the future we can ask you about those conditions and account for them when buying your next policy.

Claims Support

As brokers we deal with several insurance companies who each handle their own claims in their own way. It is always best to call the phone number on your wallet card and speak with the assistance centre as soon as possible in the event you need to seek medical attention. Contacting the assistance centre and following their advice as early as possible in the process is the best way to make sure your claims are handled smoothly and all your medical needs are met.

The overwhelming majority of claims are paid without issue, but there are times when things do not go as smoothly as one would hope, either because of a denials or unforeseen delays. In those situations we are available to act as advocates on your behalf, although we won't know about the status of a claim until you inform us. Let us know if you need help, what is happening and we will do our best to assist.

We will be able to tell you what steps you should take next to get the best outcome. People who purchase directly from an insurance company do not have a third party to act as advocates on their behalf and therefore less likely to have a claim denial successfully over turned

Date changes, extensions and early return refunds

The rules surrounding dates and travel insurance can be somewhat complicated. There are often strict requirements about insurance being in place before you leave the country and that you have coverage the entire time you are gone.

If you need to leave earlier or later than what it says on your travel insurance documents, we can help make sure your policy starts and ends on the correct day.

If you decide to stay longer at your destination, we can request an extension from the insurance company to make sure you do not have any gaps in your coverage.

If you come home earlier than the return date on your insurance, you can apply for an early return refund to get some money back for those days you did not use the insurance. For this type of refund, you will need to provide us with proof of your return back to Canada. The most common form of proof submitted is a credit card receipt from a purchase that shows the date you crossed the border.
